There are now endless football sock sleeves on the market - they've transformed the professional game - but most of the ones online are again poor fitting, overly tight, and cheap knock-off's from AliExpress and aren't worth your time.
We're here to bring some clarity to the sock sleeve market. We've been cutting our socks (sorry kitmen) since 2010 and also tried almost every sock sleeve online and even prototype sock sleeves that you can't buy.
So let's count down the 5 Best Football Grip Sock Sleeves:
#5
TAPEDESIGN
The EU's heavyweight grip sock company has had its sock sleeves in place for a little while now. Solid quality, and good fit, but heavily branded so they only really look best with their grip sock.
PRO's:
- Comfortable and athletic fit
- Lots of colour combos
CON's:
- Branding might isolate them from other grip sock combos
- Expensive for the lack of tech
- Not designed to release calf pressure
#4
GAIN THE EDGE
Surprisingly the GTE sock sleeve is quite expensive in comparison to its grip socks. The product is rock solid, if on the cheap side, but does fit reasonably well. They do have a 'hole' version, though this is somewhat gimmicky.
PRO's:
- Standard Quality
- Endless colour options
CON's:
- More expensive than their normal products
- Not an ergonomic fit
- 'Hole' version is not the most durable after multiple washes
#3
PURE GRIP
Really solid sock sleeve option that comes in lots of colours. Nothing fancy and does the job well enough, but better options available. Branding matches their grip socks nicely.
PRO's:
- Consistent quality
- Clean branding
- Lots of colours
CON's:
- Not an ergonomic fit
- Not designed to release calf pressure
#2
NIKE
Nike's Strike sock sleeve has been a market leader for a long time. Decent stretch, quality material, minimal branding - but there's a reason pro players cut holes in their socks, they can be a bit tight.
PRO's:
- Great price for the feel
- Nike Quality
- Wraps the leg nicely
CON's:
- Can fit a bit long over the knee
- Known to be tight around the upper calf
#1
APEX
The Apex AERO 1.0 has taken over the market this year. Leaning on the same material tech as Nike, but integrating pressure release zones on the calf to reduce fatigue and help slow down the onset of cramp. Designed to fit perfectly with the Apex PRO 3.0 grip sock.
PRO's:
- Best stretch and durability on the market
- ExoGuard reduces the need for tape
- AirMesh zones release calf pressure
CON's:
- Not many colours
Summary
That's the Top 10 Best Grip Socks. This list is changing every year and we'll revisit it again later in 2024.
We've not included the knock off brands that have copied market leaders - as there are hundreds now that use the same tech but at very cheap prices. Make of that what you will.
