Internal Grip Pads Don’t Work. Here’s Why. Reading Your Current Socks Don’t Fit. I Promise. 5 minutes

The biggest problem with most football socks isn’t a lack of grip. It’s a lack of fit.

This matters a lot. Football socks are designed around the limits of the manufacturing process, not the anatomy of the foot. This means the (grip) socks you currently wear are almost certainly unstructured, shapeless tubes, designed to be comfortable for lots of different people, but absolutely aren’t made to conform to your personal foot shape.

To make matters worse, many brands try to solve having a poor fitting by sock by adding a bunch of gimmicky features like adding internal grip pads (which I talked about in the last founder update).

The point is performance products are not solved because things are added. In reality a performance product is a complete system. Unified. Stripped back. Functional. Lean. Every part designed for a particular outcome. And in football, that job isn’t simply to feel sticky underfoot. It’s to help optimise the connection between your brain > feet > boots > pitch.

This all starts with a second-skin fit. A performance layer designed to weaponise your feet.

Because if the sock doesn’t support the foot - everything else has to compensate. The grip has to work harder. The boot has to work harder. The player is left dealing with small amounts of movement, bunching, and delay inside the boot. The truth is that speed, acceleration, balance, power - are all driven by your brain > foot connection - not additional ‘friction’ inside your boot.

This is the problem we wanted to solve with the ELITE-1 when developing our Gen-2 ExoFrame.

The first version of ExoFrame launched with the PRO 3.0 around four years ago. At the time, it was our attempt to bring more shape, support, and stability to a category that had become far too obsessed with grip alone. It made the sock feel way more secure and more connected than a standard grip sock, but for the ELITE-1, we knew the system had to go even further.

The Gen-2 ExoFrame is the structural architecture integrated into the ELITE-1. Re-engineered for a perfect anatomical fit. Immediate energy transfer. And a second-skin connection between the sock and your nervous system.

Designed as a two part system. The ‘external’ structure wraps the foot around the key areas - heel, mid-foot, and toes. It provides the personal fit to your foot shape and helps transfer energy from muscles to foot to boot. The ‘internal’ structure provides gradual compression (12-18mmHG) from ankle to toes providing micro-muscular support and improving ankle stability (both mechanically and neuromuscular). The combination not only eradicates almost all sock slippage, but also reduces the chance of injury by increasing blood flow to the foot and slowing down the onset of fatigue.

But we were careful not to confuse fit with tightness. A sock can squeeze the foot and still fit badly, especially if it applies pressure in the wrong places or restricts natural movements. So, the ExoFrame was carefully designed to apply enough pressure without restricting your movement and to anatomically wrap around the foot to reduce unwanted slipped without relying on internal grip pads against the skin.
That balance is what I’m most excited for you to feel when you wear the ELITE-1.

And because fit has been the obsession from the beginning, we’re also introducing three dedicated sizes for ELITE-1. Most football socks are sold in broad size ranges which are simpler, cheaper, and easier to manage. But if true fit is the goal, then adequate sock sizing is vitally important too.

Ultimately, the ELITE-1 was never meant to be a better ‘grip sock.’ It was built as a complete system around the way your foot, your brain, your boots and the pitch interact in real-time. Over the last few founder updates I’ve tried to show you how much thinking has gone into engineering it - but now we’re really uncovering what makes the ELITE-1 so elite.

If you missed any of our development series (or if you’re new here) you can read all the previous updates here. For now we’ll be sharing a) more final details/photos about the sock, b) packaging/insert info, and c) launch dates in the coming weeks.
