Update: We have begun packaging the ELITE-1. So now’s probably a good time to talk through how important that touchpoint is:
Building new products is strange because the things you experience are often only the final expression of thousands of decisions made behind the scenes.
With the ELITE-1, those decisions have always extended far beyond the sock itself. In the last update, I shared some of the details we created around the launch: the mini magazine, brochure, and wear-and-care guide designed to help players understand the thinking behind what they’re wearing.
But there was another part of the journey we had to get right.
The packaging.
I know packaging probably isn’t the first thing most people think about when they think about performance products. And honestly, I understand why. The product itself is what matters most.
But as someone who spends years obsessing over every part of a product, these details genuinely matter to me. The packaging is the first physical interaction someone has with the ELITE-1, and I wanted that moment to feel as considered as everything that comes after it.
It’s also an area where I think a lot of brands have stopped caring. Packaging has become something to minimise, rather than an opportunity to communicate what a brand stands for.

Over the years, we’ve experimented with different packaging approaches. But as Apex has evolved, we’ve started thinking much more deeply about sustainability, brand identity, and how we can make the packaging feel like a natural extension of the sock itself.
The ELITE-1 has always been inspired by a combination of two worlds: the precision and discipline of engineering, combined with the complexity and efficiency of the natural world. The packaging follows the same philosophy.
But the challenge was that packaging has to do two completely different jobs at once.
It has to create an experience. The first moment someone opens ELITE-1 should feel different. It should communicate the quality and thinking behind what is inside.
But it also has to function. It needs to protect the sock through thousands of miles of shipping, fit efficiently into warehouses, minimise unnecessary material, and make sense from a manufacturing perspective.
For the ELITE-1, we designed around both sides of that equation. A structure built specifically around the sock inside, with a form that feels considered when opened but remains efficient enough to ship globally.
Ultimately, the packaging is only one small part of the ELITE-1. But it represents the standard we wanted to hold ourselves to throughout this entire process.
